    Cabin description

It is with great sorrow that we must announce that Mevasskoia burned down the 21th of February. Mevasskoia was the newest addition to the cabin network and was completed in 2021,  it was also among the most popular of the cabins. Behind Mevasskoia lie countless hours of volunteer work and fantastic efforts from many dedicated individuals. It is incredibly sad that all of this has now been lost. The cabin burned at a time when no one was present, so fortunately no one was injured. We in the cabin board are deeply saddened by this incident and are working to determine the cause of the fire and gather other relevant information. The cabin is closed until further notice.

We would also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of focusing on fire safety when using the cabins. Be careful with open flames and gas burners. Always take care when using wood-burning stoves and saunas, and make sure everything has fully burned out before leaving the cabin. Always check that fire alarms and fire extinguishers are present and functioning as they should. Do not use plastic buckets to handle ash, but the proper metal ash bucket that are available at all the cabins. Remember that the ash may be hot up to two days after burning, and you do not have to empty the ash on every trip.

There are sacks of firewood by the end of the road just before the beginning of the trail down to the cabin. Please take with you a sack or two.

Remember to bring all your garbage back to Trondheim!

Mevasskoia was bought in July 2018 and was made open for the public in September 2018. The cabin is easily accessible by public transport, and is located by the beautiful lake “Mevatnet”. At the shore of Mevatnet, there is a boathouse that contains a boat and a canoe. To open the lock on the boathouse, you use the key to the cabin.

Inside the cabin you can play cards, fish in Mevatnet or if you are more adventures go outside to gather berries or go to one of the local hills. If you would like to go cabin-to-cabin, our other cabin “Fosen” is a one hour walk away from Mevasskoia. A new cabin from Ål-hytta were replaced with the old one in 2021. The cabin has now 16 beds and 18 sitting places.

Close to Mevasskoia is Mevassetra, which is open for visits in July. Here you can buy traditional Norwegian farm food, and meet farm animals. More information may be found at the webside of Mevassetra.

    Route description

If you have a car, you take the Fv 715 from Trondheim by the ferry Flakk-Rørvik to Vanvikan. After you reached Vanvikan you take the Fv 755 to a road called “Flatavegen”, here you take a left turn in to a gravel road and park by the parking lot marked NTNUI. By foot you follow the tractor road to Mevassætra. We have cleared a new path to the cabin that follows the pasture, so that you reach the cabin from above. There are two NTNUI-signs from the pasture to the cabin.

The best way to get to the cabin by public transport is the ferry from Trondheim hurtigbåtterminal to Vanvikan, you can take your bicycle. When you reach Fosen you ride your bike/walk North-East towards Fv755 to Aksnes or to Flatavegen (the parking lot). From Aksnes you can first go by our other cabin Fosenkoia (about two hour walk) and to Sæther about one hour (easier). Some of the ferries corresponding bus by Fv755.

Because most of the way to the cabin is along a road without sidewalks we highly recommend that you bring a reflector or a high-visibility vest!
