The Cabin Matrix
The cabin matrix is a schematic overview of all the cabins. It includes information on size, terrain, travel time and other remarks. It is a good place to start if you are planning a cabin trip. Remember that it's your own responsibility to check that the public transportation times are correct. You can for example use the route planner at En-Tur or ATB. Check the following overviews:

Level of difficulty
 | 1) | For beginners. These cabins are easy to find and a road is going all the way to the cabin. You should anyhow be familiar with map and compass. |
| 2) | For those with some experience. Characteristic for this category is that the cabins are not far from the nearest road and that the terrain is simple to walk in. |
| 3) | For experienced users. These cabins are situated farther from the nearest road and require good orienteering skills. May be exposed to the weather during winter. |
| 4) | For ambitious users. What distinguishes these cabins from level 3 is that the terrain is more demanding on the way to the cabin, as well as that they can be hard to find. |
| 5) | Demanding. The trip requires that you are familiar with the mountains and are well equipped. Long walking distance and weather conditions might be challenging. |

Traveling times: The travel and walking times listed are estimates on how long it will take to reach the cabin based on the routes described on the cabin description pages. These times are partly from own experiences, partly from feedback from other users and also from considerations made by looking at maps. These times should therefore only be considered as estimates and factors like weather, snow conditions and physical shape will affect the walking time. It should be noted that the time from the cabin to the bus stop or car parking can be considerably shorter during winter time.
The possibilities to reach the cabins using public transport varies. There will often be only one or two departures per day, sometimes with no departure on Saturdays/Sundays and in school holidays. The times listed in the table presupposes good correspondence in the transport. For information about time schedule, check the table below.
Transport options: For some cabins, it can be difficult to find a bus schedule which suits the planned trip, check out rental cars in this case. AllWays Leiebiler has NTNUI-fares! Remember to write NTNUI in the "Notice"-field. Benefits when using a car:
- Barely more expensive than the bus if you are 4 people, and a lot more flexible.
- Easier access to cabins located some distance from public transport.
- For some cabins, the arrival can be significantly earlier and it can make the difference whether it is dark or not when you arrive.
Bike: It is possible to shorten the travel time to some of the cabins by biking. You can bike all the way or bring the bike on the bus/train.
